Why Ginger Is the Best Spice for Lowering Cholesterol

Several spices can help lower cholesterol, but ginger has some of the most extensive research behind it. A 2026 research review, including over 43,000 participants, found that ginger was associated with lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol (the “bad” one).

Another study of 26 clinical trials specifically found that ginger lowered LDL cholesterol by about 5 mg/dL and total cholesterol by about 7 mg/dL.

This effect may be due to ginger’s unique plant compounds, including gingerols and shogaols, which act as antioxidants.
